Palavas les Flots

The seaside resort of Palavas les Flots is located on the edge of the Gulf of Aigues-Mortes in the south of Montpellier, between the Etangs and the sea. In contrast to neighboring resorts such as Grande Motte or Carnon, which emerged as a result of the tourist development of the coast, the town of Palavas les Flots has existed since 1850.

The nice fishing harbor is located along the river in the city centre, close to the old quarters.

The fishermen offer you fresh fish straight from their boats every morning. In Palavas, walking or cycling is preferred. The “Transcanal” chairlift has been running over the Lez, which crosses Palavas, since 1977. In summer you can take part in nautical knight tournaments on the Lez, which attract large crowds.

The old water tower of Palavas, the “Lighthouse of the Mediterranean”, is located in the city center. Inside we find the tourist office. A visit to the 11th floor provides a 360° view of the surroundings of Palavas. There is a rotating panoramic restaurant on the top floor (complete tour in 90 minutes).

Nearby Palavas, and in walking distance (3 km along the beach) is the old Cathedral of Maguelon, an impressive building in a beautiful surrounding including a garden with peacocks. The closest city to Palavas is Montpellier (10km), but also other towns are woth the visit (Sete, Nimes, Pezenas,...). There a plenty of activies for families as well. Information is available in the appartment.
